The Heralds of Hope Theater Company

The Heralds of Hope Theater Company, Inc is a Maryland-based nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization. The company's mission is to promote community outreach and provide opportunities for others by mentoring and providing a platform of artistic expression for aspiring performers and technicians of all ages. The theater company is intended to be a fertile training experience for aspiring actors, writers, directors, set designers, choreographers, lighting designers, backstage crew, and theater technicians in general. Individuals experience all aspects of a live theater production.

We promote values-based plays that depict contemporary real life issues and universal themes in society that seek to enhance social and cultural awareness and diversity through theater and the arts. We are a community theater and welcome volunteers.

The Board of Directors

The Company was officially founded in November 2005 by Dorothy Phaire, a novelist, playwright, educator, mentor, and public speaker. Dr. Percy Thomas, director/playwright, actor, educator, mentor, and public speaker, is a key officer on the company's Board of Directors. Patricia Thomas, mentor and choreographer, also serves on the Board of Directors as secretary.

The Members

The company invites new participates to join each season. No prior acting experience is necessary. Actors range in age from children to seniors. While roles are granted based on auditions, all are welcome to participate in the production in some key way. Since the theater company's startup, we have attracted a core group of talented and dedicated actors from our 2006 and 2007 drama workshops. These acting ensembles have performed throughout the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area as well as in Baltimore County.

Some of the actors who have performed with us are theater majors attending area colleges and universities. Some are graduates who are looking for the opportunity to get back on stage. Others have virtually no acting experience, other than a strong desire to learn. As acting skills improve, a novice may eventually have the chance to appear on stage during one of the productions. Basically, the only thing we ask that our members bring to the team is a commitment to the play and a desire to learn.
